Stir Fry Willie has been studying under an expert sign maker for over 10 years. Sign painting is a dying art form. The business has now been taken over by vinyl plotters. Few sign companies hand paint jobs.

In the 80's Alan Chilton, Stir fry Willies teacher, worked for a sign company at Railey's Supermarket chain where they still hand lettered the product tags and banners. Among Alan's co-workers was a one-eyed Sign painter named Hac.

In the early 90's Alan moved to Humboldt County and started teaching Stir Fry Willie everything he knew. Together the produced countless signs, splashy window jobs, and a couple of murals.
